Good to know

Keep both pages open. Transfers pause if either browser sleeps, closes, or loses its network connection.

Network restrictions may apply. Some corporate, school, VPN, or strict mobile networks can block direct peer-to-peer connections.

Browser memory matters. Very large received files must fit available device memory; send large folders in smaller batches.

Folder selection varies. Choosing a folder works in Chromium and Safari-based browsers; Firefox users can select multiple files instead.

ONE TOOL, ANY MODERN DEVICE

Share files between phones and computers

Drop is a browser-based file sharing tool for quick, private transfers. Use it to send photos, videos, PDFs, documents or folders between Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac and Linux devices. There is no account to create and nothing to install.

Phone to computer

Open Drop on the computer and scan its QR code with your phone. Choose a file on either device and keep both browsers open until it arrives.

Computer to phone

Pair the phone in seconds, then send a document, photo or video from the computer through the same private browser session.

Computer to computer

Copy the secure session link to pair another PC, Mac or Linux computer. No shared cloud drive or USB cable is needed.

DIRECT FILE TRANSFER

Your files are not uploaded to Drop

The service creates temporary pairing data, while your browser attempts to transfer each file directly to the paired browser over an encrypted WebRTC connection. Drop does not receive or store the file contents.

This makes Drop useful on a shared, school, hotel, office or print-shop computer when you need one file but do not want to sign in to your personal email or cloud storage.

FILE SHARING FAQ

Questions about sharing files with Drop

Is Drop free to use?

Yes. The direct file sharing tool is free and does not require registration, a subscription or an app.

Can I share files without creating an account?

Yes. Open Drop, pair the second device with the private QR code or secure link, then choose the files you want to send. Neither device needs an account.

What file types can I send?

You can share photos, videos, PDFs, documents and other file types. Multiple-file selection is supported, and compatible browsers can select folders.

Are my files stored in the cloud?

No. Drop uses its service only to introduce the two browsers. File contents travel over the direct WebRTC connection when the network permits and are not stored by Drop.

Why might a file transfer fail?

Both pages must remain open and awake. Some managed corporate, school, VPN or mobile networks block peer-to-peer connections, and very large incoming files depend on the receiving device's available browser memory.
